The Year of the Tiger coin is the sixth in the second series of Chinese Almanac coins first released on 2 January 1993 by the Board of Commissioners of Currency, Singapore. The first series started in 1981 with the Year of the Rooster coin and completed in 1992 with the issue of the Year of the Monkey coin.The second series of Almanac coins was designed by Dr Elsie Yu, a local artist and sculptor, using traditional Chinese paper-cut style. Interwoven with the decorative background is the symbolic icon normally associated with each of the animals.
