The Australian Gold Kangaroo, also known as the Australian Nugget is a gold bullion coin minted by the Perth Mint. From 1986 to 1989, the reverse of these coins portrayed various Australian gold nuggets, hence the name Australian Gold Nugget even till today. After the year 1989, the design was changed to feature Australia’s most famous marsupial, the kangaroo. They have legal tender in Australia and are one of the few legal tender bullion gold coins to change their design every year. Their limited annual mintage may raise their numismatic value over the value of gold used. In each year of issue, the 1/4 oz Australian Kangaroo 99.99% pure gold bullion coin is subject to a maximum mintage 150,000 pcs
