THE KANGAROO GOLD COIN 1993 - 1/2 OZ
The Australian Gold Kangaroo, also known as the Australian Nugget is a gold bullion coin minted by the Perth Mint. Each coin contains 1/2 troy ounce of gold. From 1986 to 1989, the reverse of these coins portrayed various Australian gold nuggets, hence the name Australian Gold Nugget even till today. After the year 1989, the design was changed to feature Australia’s most famous marsupial, the kangaroo.
The Perth Mint is one of the world’s most renowned precious metal mints. Founded in 1899 in Perth, Australia, as a branch of the British Royal Mint, it is now owned by the Government of Western Australia. The mint specializes in the production of bullion bars, collector coins, and investment coins made from gold, silver, platinum, and palladium. The Perth Mint is especially well known for its “Australian Kangaroo,” “Koala,” and “Lunar” coin series. The coin is issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965 and has the face value of 50 Australian Dollars.
