The Mexican Silver Libertad:
The Libertad is Mexico's treasure coin and is minted at Casa de Moneda de Mexico, the oldest mint in North America, founded in 1535 by royal decree. The coin was issued by the Spanish crown and carries the first Viceroy of New Spain, Antonio de Mendoza, creating the first mint in America. This mint produced the famous Spanish "Pieces of Eight" coins upon which the original United States Dollar, the Canadian Dollar, and the Chinese Yuan (introduced in 1889) were based. The Spanish silver coin is widely recognized as the first World Currency (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spanish_dollar).
Silver Mexican Libertads have low mintages for bullion coins giving them a bit of a numismatic value and their newer design is second to none. These coins are rapidly gaining popularity in the United States and elsewhere and the 40mm .999 fine 1 oz Silver coins are very popular with collectors and investors.
Packaging & Notes:
Libertad coins come in sealed bank bags (having the BM logo) directly from the Mexican Mint. The sturdy bag seal has a serial number and the type of coins, quantity, purity and weight are also listed. Each bank bag cointains 18 tubes of coins. Each tube contains 25 Libertad coins for a total of 450 coins per bag.
450 coin orders will be sold in the original sealed bags. Smaller orders will be fulfilled in multiples of 25 coins. The new plastic tube packaging contains more coins than before (25 versus 20), and has a easy open flip top where you just flip open at the corner of the cover marked 'Open'.
We are a regional distributor for the Banco De Mexico (Mexican Central Bank) which distributes the coins for the Mint and can now obtain these coins, which are normally rather difficut to get, in quantity at very competitive rates
